Eco-friendly philanthropists gathered for the 100 Gardens by 2020 Luncheon.
THE PARTY Ed Begley Jr. and Rachelle Carson-Begley welcomed over 50 VIP guests to their stunning LEED Platinum Studio City home for an afternoon of fresh food, fun and philanthropy. Co-hosted by charitable nonprofits Captain Planet Foundation and Kiss the Ground, the luncheon raised awareness of the two organizations’ goal to have 100 Project Learning Garden schools in LAUSD by 2020. THE SCENE Partygoers sipped rosé while enjoying a fresh vegan lunch catered by Café Gratitude, which included macrobiotic bowls, bean burgers, raw cakes and more. Outside in the beautiful backyard garden, recording artist and Kiss the Ground co-founder Finian Makepeace chatted with CPF board chair Laura Turner Seydel about helping L.A. schools give students more access to nature and the outdoors. THE HIGHLIGHTS CPF Executive Director Leesa Carter-Jones capped off the event by sharing the most memorable moment she’s experienced while working with L.A.’s youth. “While we were pulling up carrots, radishes and greens from the garden, one awe-struck student shouted, ‘Oh, my gosh! We can grow grocery-store food!’ It was a revelation for him and truly drove home our mission.” -Lydia Martin
