It will commence its live online auction with Yaacov Agam’s double-sided polymorph window installation from the Spreckels Theater in San Diego.
The sculptor and experimental artist worked in optical and kinetic arts. His 20-foot-long mosaic window was commissioned in 1983 by president Jacquelyn Littlefield of the Spreckels Theater and is considered as the most important piece of work ever by Agam to be offered at an auction.
An Israeli artist, Agam grew up in an Orthodox home and was first inspired by his rabbi father during the beginning of his artistic pursuits. In 1951, he moved to Paris where his artistic abilities would be discovered by other famous surrealists. Agam’s art is a reflection of characteristics of human life and is designed to manipulate shapes, colors and perspectives with influence of his upbringing. Today, Agam continues to create new works of art.
After a 37-year display at the entrance of the Spreckels Theatre, Agam’s vibrant two-sided polymorph window will be available for bidding.
After Agam’s piece, the auction will then follow with work by other legendary artists such as Pablo Picasso, Ernie Barnes, Miguel Covarrubias, Andy Warhol, Diego Rivera and dozens of others, as well as featuring notable collectables. Modern works of art include Ernie Barnes Pool Hall, Andy Warhol Mao 1972, Carlo Scarpa Pennellate Vase, Morris Cole Graves Spirit Bird and Jean Dubuffet Site Avec 3 Personnage.
Unique items to be included are pianos by Steinway and Sons and Yamaha; a 1976 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith; an electric 2018 BMW 530E and a collection of Tiffany lamps.
