Thought you saw the last of Blockbuster? Bend, Oregon’s Blockbuster isn’t the only one around this year.
This month, make your way down to the Blockbuster Speakeasy for this special pop up. The Blockbuster Speakeasy launches Nov. 18 in Los Angeles right on Melrose Avenue.
The experience is brought to life by Bucket Listers and New Gold Empire, and furthermore spearheaded by Derek Berry (whose credits include pop-ups Saved by the Max, Golden Girls Kitchen, and The Peach Pit) and Zach Neil (whose immersive experience credits include Beetlehouse, Karnevil, and Stay Classy). The duo's aim is to take guests back with this blast from the past.
However, this Blockbuster is about more than just movies for rent, popcorn and candy. It knows we're all grown up.
As guests enter the speakeasy, they are greeted at the door and provided with their very own membership card, which actually acts as a drink ticket.
Then, just as you used to hunt down your favorite movie, search through the genre aisles, which are sectioned off by ingredients (different cocktails, spirits, beers). Here you'll choose a themed beverage inspired by beloved movies from the '90s and aughts. On the movie synopsis, you'll find the cocktail recipe, which you then bring to the bartender to make the drink.
The speakeasy provides a full bar service with delicious cocktails, mocktails and plenty of nostalgic movie snacks, such as popcorn, Gushers, Yoo-Hoos, Orbitz, a large candy selection and more.
What're more, the upgraded experience offers a food menu that features a grown up Lunchable, the Blockbuster Burger (vegan option available!), Please Rewind Truffle Fries and the Dunkaroo Ice Cream Sundae, among other options.
Prices start at $29 per person, which includes one throwback cocktail.
The Blockbuster pop-up is also hosting brunch events that transform the speakeasy into a breakfast club with music, special surprises and welcoming throwback vibes beginnign the weekend of Dec. 10. Reservations are $55 per person and include one entree and one throwback cocktail.
