Los Angeles officially has its first dedicated NFL team training facility and headquarters.
Called The Bolt, The Chargers have cemented their roots in Los Angeles, and Angelenos are welcome to marvel at its greatness very soon.
On July 13 and 14, fans will get to explore the El Segundo facility. The exclusive tours will guide fans through the first level of the building, offering a first-hand look at the main lobby atrium, press conference space, locker room, the turf pad running and the weight room.
However, this open house sold out within 30 minutes of reservations opening. But not to worry; you still have other chances to visit.
The Chargers will have their first training camp at The Bolt beginning July 24. Over the course of the first three weeks of camp, fans can attend public practices by pre-registering for free tickets. Capacity is limited, so be sure to keep an eye out for when registration opens on July 15 for week one of camp; July 22 for week two and July 29 for week three.
“Our fans are part of the Chargers family,” said Dean Spanos, Chargers controlling owner and chairman. “This is theirs as much as it is ours, and I want them to feel that when they come here.”
Furthermore, you don’t have to wait until an in-person visit to know what’s exactly going on in The Bolt. We’ve got a look inside below.
Sprawling across 14 acres, The Bolt is three stories high and features three full natural grass fields. The entry dazzles with a Chargers Walk of Fame, honoring members with individual terrazzo tile and brass inlay. It was made by the very same company that does the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Indoors, the first floor is composed of the locker room, equipment room, training and medical space, weight room, hydrotherapy room, recovery room, sauna, steam room, barber’s area, multiple player lounges and direct access to practice fields, a lap/rehab pool and an outdoor lounge, which comes tricked out with a barbecue, firepit and outdoor televisions.
The second floor is home to offices and dining room and kitchen. Helmed by Wolfgang Puck Catering, the space is a world-class culinary eatery with carvery, smoothie and coffee bars, a pasta station, a grill station, an island salad bar, a rotating daily global fare station and a tiled Chargers helmet-inspired pizza oven.
Currently in the finishing stages, the top level will be home to a members-only club, complete with a wrap-around balcony, lounge, dining area and private dining room. Additionally, this floor is the main center for conference rooms, executive and business staff offices and content creation hubs.
“I haven’t been this excited in a long time,” said Spanos. “I see it in the community, I see it within the organization—from our staff to our players to our coaches, it’s electrifying. Jim Harbaugh being here has brought a new sense of awareness about our team; how important it is to us and to the community. And now you have this new facility that everyone’s been talking about for more than two years now. Our fans are excited. You see it everywhere you go. I hear how they can’t wait to come to camp. Can’t wait to see The Bolt. This took a lot of time and a lot of hard work, and I just feel fortunate that our staff, players and fans will be able to enjoy this for years to come.”
