Hotel Bel-Air (dorchestercollection.com), in partnership with bicoastal design gallery The Future Perfect (thefutureperfect.com), recently welcomed works by contemporary surrealist artist Chris Wolston (chriswolston.com), who splits his time between New York and Medellín, Columbia. The exhibition showcases an exploration of terra cotta through floral-grooved planter chairs populated with greenery from the hotel’s on-site garden. Awarded the Fulbright grant to study pre-Columbian ceramics, Wolston developed an affinity for non-Western craft traditions and the cultural significance of flora globally, even opening his second studio with an accompanying garden in the Medellín. “I am inspired by [...] Medellín. A continuous growing season provides constant abundance... and it allows me to create tangible transformations within the space—almost like a conductor making adjustments within their orchestra,” Wolston shares. “A tweak in one spot leads to creating potential in another, constantly creating movement and change in the environment.” Catch Wolston’s captivating exhibition until Feb. 15, and consider taking home a piece yourself, available for purchase through Hedges Projects (hedges-projects.com).
