Chrysalis Butterfly Ball

| September 15, 2017 | Parties National

Chrysalis Butterfly Ball celebrates its Sweet 16 with an all-star gala.

THE PARTY An evening drizzle couldn’t damper the energy at Chrysalis, where more than 700 philanthropists gathered to support the nonprofit’s job training and placement services for L.A.’s underprivileged. THE SCENE Molly Sims and husband Scott Stuber hosted guests, including longtime supporter Russell Simmons, during the cocktail reception, while Empire’s Jussie Smollett served as emcee for the evening. Event co-chair Rebecca Gayheart Dane gave an impactful speech about the organization’s resilience, while Patricia Arquette, Zendaya and Halle Berry each introduced Spirit of Chrysalis recipients Common, Peter Cramer, and Rosetta and Balthazar Getty. THE HIGHLIGHTS Chef Curtis Stone auctioned off a rare culinary experience for $30,000, and Chrysalis client Raymond received a standing ovation following his speech sharing how the organization has saved his life. Though Berry beamed while introducing Cramer, it was the actress who received the surprise honor of being serenaded with a freestyle rap by none other than Common that brought down the house. -Shontel Horne
