Memorial Day weekend may be well-regarded as the kickoff to summer, but we Angelenos believe that honor really goes to the launch of Cinespia’s summer season.
So let the anticipation begin: the city’s favorite outdoor movie series is back and begins on May 13.
“We’re beyond excited to be back at Hollywood Forever and kick off our 21st season over Memorial Day Weekend with two screenings,” said Cinespia founder John Wyatt.
Cinespia first began with just a screening of Stranger on a Train for a few hundred people. Over the years, it has become the most popular cinema event in Southern California by offering a lineup of old classics and beloved favorites. A typical Cinespia night welcomes up to 4,000 moviegoers who cozy up in blankets and gather around picnics of snacks and drinks with their friends and family. What’s more, before the sun goes down, guests get to enjoy music from on-site DJs, the on-theme photo booth, a beer and wine bar and concession stands.
“We’re looking forward to seeing our patrons this summer under the stars celebrating cinema at some of L.A.’s most iconic venues,” added Alia Penner, Cinespia’s creative director.

To celebrate the return of Los Angeles’ longest running outdoor series, Cinespia is rolling out its summer lineup with four fan-favorite films.
It all starts with Jurassic Park at Los Angeles Historic Park on May 13, with Mean Girls and Back to the Future following up on May 28 and 29, respectively, at Hollywood Forever Cemetery.
June will then see the screenings of Twilight (6/3) at Los Angeles Historic Park and American Psycho (6/4) at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Tickets can be purchased on Cinespia’s website and start at $22.
The lineup for the rest of the summer has yet to be announced, but given that Cinespia is starting off with these four excellent choices, we have no doubt we’re in for a fun season.
