he Inaugural Common Threads Los Angeles World Festival event was held Tuesday, November 8 at the London West Hollywood in its charming Hampton Court. The modern English garden was the perfect setting to showcase the mouth-watering cuisine of celebrated chefs from L.A., Carmel, San Diego, Sonoma and Chicago. Nearly 200 guests had the opportunity to sample signature dishes, speak one on one with renowned chefs, and mingle with L.A.’s culinary and philanthropic community. The soulful voice of former American Idol finalist, Michael Johns, perfected the atmosphere.
Funds raised will benefit Common Threads’ L.A. programs at Para Los Ninos and Challengers Boys and Girls Club. Sponsors of the event included Lyfe Kitchen, Absolut, Plymouth Gin, Michelle Whiting and Associates, and Stacey Vuduris Design.
Common Threads teaches low-income children and families to cook wholesome and affordable meals because they believe that through their hands-on cooking classes they can help prevent childhood obesity and reverse the trend of generations of non-cookers, while celebrating our cultural differences and the things people all over the world have in common.
The organization now runs programs at 28 locations in four cities: Chicago (18 sites), Los Angeles (2), Miami (4), Washington, D.C. (4) and soon, New York City.
