Daring Debut

| October 24, 2012 | Parties

THE PARTY Glorya Kaufman, in a vibrant floral dress and matching headband, joined a bevy of local dance fans in Disney Hall’s Founders Room to celebrate Millepied and his new company after its debut performance. The evening included seminal modern pieces choreographed by William Forsythe and Merce Cunningham, as well as the world premiere of Millepied’s newest work, “Moving Parts.” THE PLAYERS Stephen Rountree, Rashida Jones, Robert Pattinson, Nicolas Bos, Jeffrey Deitch, Larissa Sabadash, Catharine Soros, Kenny Ortega THE HIGHLIGHTS Millepied’s new wife, Natalie Portman—who accented her newly blond hair with a white Dior haute couture gown and Van Cleef & Arpels earrings—looked as though she belonged in “Diamonds,” part of George Balanchine’s famous Jewels ballet that is said to have been partially inspired by Van Cleef stones. She, Jaime King and Dita Von Teese shone in designs from the French jewelry maison as guests marveled at the virtuosity of the dancers onstage, especially Frances Chiaverini, who made the most of Forsythe’s steps.
