“My hope is that, many years from now, Dorsey pieces will be heirloom jewelry that grandmothers pass down to their grandchildren,” says founder Meg Strachan, shown here PHOTO: BY ASHLEY BARRETT
DORSEY’S SUSTAINABLY MINDED JEWELRY CAPTURED HOLLYWOOD’S HEART FROM THE START. NOW, A FRESH CROP OF DAZZLERS FROM THE L.A.-BASED BRAND WILL KEEP THE CRUSH GOING STRONG.

Meg Strachan’s career always revolved around fashion in some way, shape or form. But it wasn’t until she saw a vacancy in the market for nonbridal, lab-grown jewelry that she decided to launch Dorsey (shopdorsey.com), her line of heritage jewelry made from lab-grown stones. “I was fascinated that there wasn’t a brand focused on the jewelry women want to wear daily, including tennis bracelets, riviere necklaces and earrings,” she says. “When I decided to start the business, it felt like the right moment in time to bring education to a new kind of stone but with craftsmanship details I’ve loved since I was young.”

Dorsey launched in 2019, and its pieces—especially the always sold-out riviere necklaces made from lab-grown sapphires—have been a hit since, showing up on Justin and Hailey Bieber, on Taylor Swift in her “Red (Taylor’s Version)” music video, and on Bella Hadid at this year’s Met Gala. “It’s really exciting to see celebrities who have access to just about any jewelry they want choose to wear lab-grown pieces,” says Strachan, who gets her design inspiration from the world around her. “I’m really interested in how women wear jewelry, so I find myself staring at people on the streets, in coffee shops, in films. I’ll sometimes pause a movie so I can look back at how a character wears jewelry.”

While her original pieces were made with lab-grown sapphires, Strachan’s newest designs incorporate lab-grown diamonds (the latest styles sold out within 48 hours) and emeralds. “For holiday, we’re introducing a lab-grown emerald collection—new statement earrings along with our bestselling riviere styles with the new stone,” she says. “Soon, we’ll also be offering completely customized pieces... and in 2023, we are expanding our collection quite significantly to include categories we’ve not yet sold—including rings, but in a very Dorsey way.”
