Down to Earth

| April 28, 2016 | Parties

THE PARTY Actors, philanthropists, conservationists and even former VP Al Gore came out for UCLA Institute of the Environment and Sustainability’s fourth annual gala to celebrate The Champions of Our Planet’s Future. THE SCENE Tony and Jeanne Pritzker’s Beverly Hills estate backdropped IoES’ ode to environmentalism honoring Ted Sarandos of Netflix, Jeff Skoll of Participant Media/Skoll Foundation, and Eric and Wendy Schmidt (executive chairman of Alphabet and president of the Schmidt Family Foundation, respectively). THE HIGHLIGHTS Luminaries from Goldie Hawn to Jane Fonda watched as Sarandos accepted his award from legendary Norman Lear. “When Norman approached me about this award, I was confused because I haven’t done enough work on behalf of the environment directly to deserve such honor tonight,” Sarandos shared, “but I hope in this speech, I can bring more attention to the people who do.” Underscoring the importance of the evening was Gore. Expressing the urgent need for environmentalism, he said, “The future of humanity is on the line.” –Photos by Chelsea Lauren/Vivien Best and John Sciulli/WireImage
