Suzan Hughes is an entrepreneur, philanthropist, producer and founder of The Suzan Hughes Education Foundation (S.H.E.) and Herbalife Family Foundation.
Finding strength in adversity and using that power to create has been the key to Susan Hughes success. The childhood trauma she experienced as an orphan and in foster care system make use determined to create a better life for self, all while serving as the source of her compassion for others. Hughes and her husband Mark were the visionary team that built Herbalife into one of the most successful companies in the world in a little over a decade. Not satisfied to rest on her laurels, Hughes went on to create "Take 10 To a Better You" a wildly successful workout series, and the iconic Rollermax, a foam roller that changed the global fitness industry. With success firmly established, Hughes turned her energies into advocating for children through a variety of organizations that culminated in her cofounding Herbalife Family Foundation, which has helped millions of children in over 60 countries since 1994. In 2016 Hughes took that commitment to the next level when she launched the Suzan Hughes Education Foundation (S.H.E.) that advocates for children in need and educates parents to provide strong guidance for their children though gourmet parenting.
Share success tips you learned from Herbalife and your other businesses?
First, adopt the right mindset by identifying and overcoming self-imposed limiting beliefs. Second, be fearless. When you walk in your greatness, opposition occurs and fear shows up to bully and control you, which can lead you away from your destiny. Don't let it. Fear is confirmation you are moving in the right direction. Finally, acquire the skills you need to succeed through education. Programs liked edX offer online courses in a wide variety of subjects that improve the lives and career paths of knowledge seekers everywhere.
Talk about the product categories you developed that contributed to Herbalife's success.
Using nanotechnology, I developed Dermajetics, a line of innovative skin care products that use body heat to reach the deepest layers of the skin. The results were extraordinary and the skin care subsidiary line sold over $400 million in products in its first few years. I then went on to develop successful lines of haircare and perfumes. The new product categories that I created at Herbalife were born from my desire to diversify the company and deliver the best to our customers.
How is your work as a producer informed your life?
My vision is to produce creative content with powerful and meaningful messages that continue my mission to be the greater good. My recent short film 15 Seconds Fame recently debuted at Cannes.
Describe your legacy.
To positively impacting the lives of children. This began with the Herbalife family foundation and continues through the season Hughes foundation. It is my way of expressing gratitude. My legacy is defined by gratitude because it makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and create a vision for tomorrow.
