Hot home stagers and stylists Echo Ranch share how they create the perfect space.

Angus McDonald: A film business friend started Echo Ranch Design 10 years ago. He made plans to move cross-country and offered me a partnership in the staging business in hopes that I would one day take over the company, and lo and behold, I did just that. Jane Derryberry: At the time, I was working on an architectural build and interior design project in Malibu. [Angus and I] recognized the natural alignment between our professions and embraced the opportunity to contribute and address crucial gaps within the existing business.
JD: Our aesthetic sets us apart from traditional staging. We’re a no-rules bohemian, modern and eclectic firm with a design philosophy that allows us to curate our extensive inventory. We aim to showcase the depth, richness, and character of every space we take on. We prioritize collaboration with artisans, particularly local talents in Los Angeles. Our commitment to the arts extends beyond design. By incorporating rare, one-of-a-kind pieces into our designs, we elevate the space and evoke a sense of wonder that resonates with potential buyers. A mix of unique pieces breathes life and personality into a home, fostering a connection that transcends aesthetics.
AM: We are delighted to witness the resurgence of color in interior design! It conjures a “wow” factor, gives a distinctive voice to your home and speaks directly to potential buyers. In particular, we LOVE the vibrant and playful wallcoverings offered by independent showrooms like Hollywood at Home.

JD: Massive! Effective home staging typically boosts a property’s value by 5-20%. When you’re talking about a listing upward of a million dollars, or as it is here in Los Angeles— millions of dollars—these numbers add up.
JD: We gather inspiration from films, paying close attention to classic and innovative set designs. We love exploring the most cutting-edge interior design showrooms on Melrose, La Cienega and Beverly, sifting through treasures at the Rose Bowl or discovering hidden gems in antique stores. Travel and nature are a huge part of our lives, too.
AM: We plan to go harder, better, faster, stronger. We’re so thrilled about the growth we’ve experienced, and right now, it’s all about how we can do more and do better. [We’ll continue] to learn, evolve, design and build meaningful, longstanding partnerships.
