Fine Footwork

| October 23, 2013 | Parties

THE PARTY Ballet aficionados migrated to the Beverly Hills abode of Jeanne and Tony Pritzker for American Ballet Theatre’s Stars Under the Stars Gala. On the way to raising nearly a quarter million for Southern California ballet programs, dancers from ABT’s ranks performed scenes from the company’s repertoire. THE SCENE The setting sun and a breathtaking city vista provided the ideal backdrop for guests to sip Champagne after waltzing down a red carpet alongside Hollywood stars such as Jenna Elfman, Jane Seymour, Nigel Lythgoe and Neve Campbell. A transformed tennis court set the stage for a moonlit dinner, where ABT icons, including principal dancers Gillian Murphy and Cory Stearns, performed Depuis le Jour and famous scenes from Swan Lake. Dinner included a late-summer burrata and prosciutto salad, and slow-braised beef short rib with crushed fingerling potatoes a la Wolfgang Puck. THE HIGHLIGHTS Donning a high-cut black leotard from her dancewear wardrobe, SoCal native Misty Copeland made heads spin when she danced a solo scene from Paganini, a well-deserved artistic exclamation point on the evening.
