Frieze L.A. Returns to Celebrate the City's Creative Spirit

Frieze LAFrieze Los Angeles: Opening Preview 2019

For the first time ever, Frieze Los Angeles and Frieze New York Director Christine Messineo will lead the cultural event when it descends upon L.A. from Feb. 17 to Feb. 20.

This year, the fair will also be at a new location just adjacent to The Beverly Hilton hotel where over a hundred of the world’s leading galleries will come together to rejoice in the creative spirit of Los Angeles. The 2022 event will also debut the Frieze Sculpture Beverly Hills as part of the program of events and public activities for Frieze Week in Beverly Hills. Set in Beverly Gardens Park, it will feature works by a number of critically acclaimed artists.

Frieze Week programming kicks off ahead of the weekend’s main event. Starting Feb. 14, various exhibitions and events will run across the city. Highlights include “Selected Acquisitions of a Decade” at The Broad; “LaTroya Ruby Frazier: The Last Cruze” at California African American Museum; “Lifes” and “Ulysses Jenkins: Without Your Interpretation” at Hammer Museum; “Black American Portraits” at LACMA; and “Pipilotti Rist: Big Heartedness, Be My Neighbor” at MOCA.

As for the 2022 fair, the featured selection of major galleries represents worldwide talent and the very best of L.A.’s arts scene. The showcase will include Blum & Poe, The Box, Château Shatto, Commonwealth and Council, Pilar Corrias, Emalin, Stephen Friedman Gallery, Sadie Coles HQ, Paula Cooper, Gagosian, Gladstone and Marian Goodman, among others.

As art is wont to do, the rest of Los Angeles has been inspired to take part. Over at The Beverly Hilton, signature restaurant Circa55 is honoring Frieze L.A. with an art-inspired cocktail, which will be available from Feb. 1 to Feb. 20. Named “Streets of Picasso,” the craft cocktail features Johnnie Walker High Rye, Carpano Antica Vermouth, fresh lemon, simple syrup, egg whites, Regan’s orange bitters and Angostura bitters and is garnished with blue-candied beads and a dried blood orange.

In addition, The Beverly Hilton is offering a guest package that includes guest accommodations in their newly-renovated Wilshire Tower and tickets to attend Frieze L.A. festivities.

What’s more, Bisquit & Dubouché will serve as an official sponsor of the fair. As part of the partnership, the avant-garde cognac maison has teamed with artist Jillian Mayer to present an exclusive installation. The Glass Room is Mayer’s first-ever, fully-immersive glass installation. Inspired by the way Bisquit & Dubouché hypnotically swirls in a snifter, Mayer invites guests to witness her commentary on transformation through a vision of amber, burgundy and sepia hues.

“As I learned more about the process of distilling cognac, I was excited to find out that copper is a key component of Bisquit & Dubouché’s provocative distillation process, just as glass is integral to the final presentation of the master distiller’s art. Glass, heat, copper – all these raw materials that are employed through the process of creating cognac are the same materials I’m utilizing in my work. In fact, the only metal that I use with glass is copper, as it does not impact or influence the color of the glass. This special relationship between copper and glass, flowing together as compatible materials, felt like the perfect homage to Bisquit & Dubouché,” said Mayer.
