THE PARTY The museum’s annual A-list-fueled gala and the unveiling of Swiss artist Urs Fischer’s first major U.S. retrospective THE PLAYERS Maria Arena Bell, Eli Broad, Stephanie and Peter Brant, Gavin Brown, Julian Schnabel, Doug Aitken, Hedi Slimane, Ellen Pompeo, Brian Grazer, Larry Gagosian, Miranda July THE HIGHLIGHTS MOCA certainly knows how to throw a party. The museum wrangled artist Rob Pruitt to create its annual fundraising extravaganza and the opening party for artist Urs Fischer’s retrospective. The evening kicked off with a private preview of Fischer’s work at Grand Avenue before moving on to dinner at The Geffen. A daze of images and YouTube viral videos projected on the walls played into one of the evening’s many whimsical themes, 4/20 (the international code for marijuana friendliness, and also the date of the occasion), while munchie stations and surreal touches including a baby goat petting zoo and the USC marching band provided extra entertainment. Performances by the Go-Go’s, Jennifer Herrema and comedian Rory Scovel kept guests moving and laughing late into the night and helped raise $2.5 million for the museum.
