THE PARTY Social entrepreneur and education activist Beth Friedman opened up her Holmby Hills home for a cause dear to her heart: the launch of the nonprofit Women Aspire Respond Engage (A.R.E.). Co-founded with author Angella Nazarian, the new women’s leadership organization teamed up with activist and CNN Hero Somaly Mam for a gathering that attracted a slew of influential advocates eager to make a difference. THE PLAYERS Monique Lhuillier, Daryl Hannah, Lori Loughlin, Linda Gersh, Joyce Arad, Nadine Watt THE HIGHLIGHTS Nearly 200 attendees braved an L.A. rainstorm to attend the organization’s launch. The occasion featured a motivational speech by Mam, who shared her experience as a former Cambodian sex slave and her ongoing efforts to put an end to human trafficking. Jane Fonda was among those who soaked up Mam’s inspirational words. Copies of Mam’s book, The Road of Lost Innocence, were handed to guests, but the afternoon’s ultimate high point?
