Where to Celebrate Holi in Los Angeles

Holi— AKA the Festival of Colors— celebrates the warm days of spring and the melting away of the cold winter season. The anicent Hindu festial is immersive and colorful, ending in throwing Gulal (colored powder) at friends, family and people in your community while being dressed in white. If you are looking for a fun way to celebrate this year, check out this list of the six Holi events happening around Los Angeles this weekend.

1. March 18: Celebrate Holi at Khan Saab Desi Craft Kitchen

Kick off the spring season and celebrate Holi with Khan Saab Desi Craft Kitchen, a Michelin Guide restaurant, this year! Offering a limited-time menu with traditional and colorful Holi cuisine, your cravings for mouthwatering Desi food will be satisfied. The new items will be the Hara Bara Kabob, a spinach and potato patty stuffed with garbanzo beans; the Pav Bhaji, a sandwich filled with delicious vegetables and gun-powder dusted Pav bread and the Poriyal, a South Indian stir-fry dish. Make sure to get a reservation before all the seats are filled.

2. March 18-19: Rang De Canadá- Virtual Holi Celebration

If you can’t attend an in-person Holi celebration this year, you might want to check out Rang De Canadá, a two-day virtual Holi event. The online festival will host a range of workshops and online panel discussions for guests to learn more about Holi’s history. The beloved game Antakshari will also be available to play with Indian multiculrutal performers and community members from all over. Make sure to get up and sing and dance along with the music they play. Just because the event is virtual doesn’t mean it’s any less of a celebration!

3. March 18-19: Balam Pichkari A Neon Holi Bollywood Party

If you love Bollywood as much as we do, you have to attend the Balam Pichkari: A Neon Holi Bollywood Party to celebrate! Neon body paint and glow sticks will be provided so you can dance the night away under the glow of the black lights. This is not your typical Holi Festival, so don’t forget to buy your tickets online and bring proof of vaccination and a valid form of ID to attend this fun 18 plus event!

4. March 19: Holi at The Pretend City Children’s Museum

The Pretend City Children Museum is hosting a Holi Festival this weekend, which is a perfect family-friendly option for young children. Art sessions will be available at the event for kids to create colorful Holi-inspired marble prints by sprinkling powder into water. Additionally, children will be able to decorate their bodies in Gulal like colors by using skin-safe crayons. There will also be a storytime that will explain all about this beautiful holiday and performances from the Dhwani Dance Acadamey, showcasing the traditional dance and music behind this celebration.

5. March 19: Holi Fest OC

6. March 19: Holi Festival of Color- Silent Disco On the Beach

Taking place at South Beach Park, the Holi Festival of Color Silent Disco gives guests a fun new way to celebrate.
