On Oct. 29, Hollywood Forever Cemetery is returning this year for its 23rd installment of its Day of the Dead Celebration.
Split up into into two parts— Dia de los Muertos and Noche de los Muertos— the celebration will feature art by Sabino Guisu (among others), cultural performances, live performances, live DJ sets from DJ Que Madre and DJ Hambre and plenty of delicious food and tasty treats.
Guisu is a Mexican contemporary artist whose art recently featured in the “Waking Dream” 2022 Burning Man exhibition exhibiting vision of transculturation and spiritual rupture that exists between the individual and his environment, achieving a deep personal reflection.
His work demonstrated geometric patterns found in the ruins of Mexican pyramids, death and chance, themes always visible and reoccurring. Part of Guisu’s Burning Man #156 artwork will be specially featured at the event and can also be found on his Instagram. Following the event, Guisu’s work will head to Miami's Art Basel.
Brining love, magic and tranformation, this year’s theme is centered on Mayahuel, the Aztec Goddess of Fertility, agave and the ruler of the 8th day and the 8th year.
Día de los Muertos will run from 9 a.m to 3 p.m and will have a children’s plaza, cultural performances, altars, art exhibitions, folklorico dance, traditional dance, arts and crafts and culinary vendors. Tickets start at $35.
Later, Noche de los Muertos takes place from 5 p.m to 12 a.m and includes even more cultural performances, art exhibitions, altars, musical artists, traditional and cultural performers and culinary vendors. Tickets start at $55.
The Hollywood Forever Cemetery was founded in 1899 and, to this day, houses many of the film industry’s most iconic and memorable members and every year many people come to celebrate and honor their very own loved ones.
