Hope for All

| December 18, 2014 | Parties

At the behest of Barbara Davis and her eponymous foundation, the A-list arrived en masse at The Beverly Hilton for the 2014 Carousel of Hope Ball to commend Brass Ring Award recipient Earvin “Magic” Johnson, while joining in the fight to end diabetes. Upon arrival, the guest list—which included Raquel Welch, Barry Manilow, Diane Keaton and Rod Stewart—mingled among silent-auction pieces while sipping Champagne and PatrĂ³n-infused libations. The glamorous flock eventually migrated into the grand ballroom for a three-course dinner and phenomenal performance. Jay Leno, the master of ceremonies for the evening, kicked off the main event with his signature zealous stand-up routine and a very serious live auction, where a sparkling new Mercedes-Benz 2015 S550 Coupe Edition 1 sold for an impressive $170,000. The highlight, however, came during the string of musical acts that followed. Josh Groban took the stage first to perform his beloved version of “You Raise Me Up,” then Oscar- and Grammy-winning songstress Jennifer Hudson provoked a standing ovation with her Dreamgirls number, “And I Am Telling You,” a performance that could only be followed by 10-time Grammy Award-winning artist Babyface, who sang a medley of his No. 1 hits. –Photos by ABImages
