Hotel Bel-Air has long been a promised land for whiskey aficionados.
At its esteemed Bar & Lounge, expert imbibes delight in craft cocktails and tastings alike. The Hundred Dollar Old Fashioned stuns for its coalescing of WhistlePig’s most mature rye whiskey with demerara sugar and Angostura orange bitters, while the Flight to Scotland impresses through pours of The Macallan 18-year. Rare Cask and 25-Year—just to name a few.
Continuing its rich whiskey history, Hotel Bel-Air has unveiled The Suntory Room. This new bespoke event space is a collaboration between the Dorchester Collection hotel and the House of Suntory.
Alongside allowing guests access to rare bottles of Japanese whisky, The Suntory Room can be reserved for private tastings, listening sessions, cocktail parties with curated food pairings and more. Dinners can seat up to 18 guests, while receptions can host up to 40.
“This meticulously designed venue offers an immersive experience, where sophistication meets tradition,” says Micah Paloff, Hotel Bel-Air’s director of food and beverage. “Guests can savor the craftsmanship of Suntory’s finest whiskeys, surrounded by a modern yet timeless ambiance. It’s also an invitation to celebrate the art of whiskey and Japanese spirit’s culture while enjoying elevated dining and cocktailing moments.”
The Suntory Room showcases a refined sophistication with cultural and historical flourishes. Wood-paneled walls root down the space peppered with leather furniture, while images of House of Suntory's visionary master blenders and artisans honor the Japanese distiller’s legacy. Bonsai trees and a wood-burning fireplace add a touch of warmth and comfort. Outfitted with a fire pit, the outdoor terrace adds a breath of fresh air.
To celebrate, Hotel Bel-Air and House of Suntory will host a whisky tasting on March 19 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The evening will offer the chance to enjoy hard-to-come-by selections including Hibiki Japanese Harmony, Hibiki Blossom Harmony, Hibiki Blossom 100th Anniversary and Hibiki 21 years old.
