A careful mix of bold colors, tailored furnishings and eye-catching art take this Indian Wells home to the next level.

When Mark Stocker’s clients—a restaurant-owning couple with adult children—approached his firm about refreshing their vacation home at The Vintage Club in Indian Wells, Stocker knew the project would be a good fit. With an appreciation for modern design and pops of color, “the owners and Mark Stocker Design’s taste mesh perfectly,” he says. “The clients wanted a home to mimic the vibrance and colors of Palm Springs with a little bit of flair,” says Stocker. “[They] wanted to stay true to the Palm Springs look and feel for their vacation home.” MSD was given free rein on the interiors without hand-holding. “They are longtime clients and have complete faith in our team,” says Stocker.
The homeowners loved the idea of staying true to the classic Palm Springs aesthetic, with plenty of bold color and pattern throughout. “The Vintage Club and the surrounding area of Indian Wells inspired the home’s design,” Stocker shares. “Although there was not one piece, in particular, that inspired the design, we were thoughtful while sourcing and found inspiration in all aspects of the desert lifestyle.”

Stocker and his team worked on the project with builder Field X Studio Studio. “[They] were the right fit for the job and already working on numerous builds in the same area,” says Stocker, who notes that Advanced Woodwork oversaw the cabinetry fabrication...
“We removed multiple walls to open the space up and allow for a grander living room,” says Stocker. “We also extended the fireplace to the ceiling to bring your eye up and visually make the space feel larger.” A custom rug by Modern Nature Design in inviting pink and berry shades is a lovely counter to mostly neutral furnishing—custom items, pieces by Thayer Coggin and Nathan Anthony, and light walls. A hanging pendant by Boyd Lighting doubles as art. “We also had a custom design applied to the entry doors and threw a splash of hot pink on them to capture the essence of the Palm Springs lifestyle,” Stocker shares.
“The client requested a custom-size table specially for poker games,” Stocker says, adding that the dining chairs are by Arflex. “We had this made by Julien Chichester in a Benjamin Moore paint finish.” The joyful rug is custom-made by Modern Nature Desugb, and the pendant light is by Tom Dixon. “[It] reflects a Studio 54 vibe,” says Stocker.

Decked out with top-notch appliances from Pirch, including a Wolf induction range, Sub-Zero integrated wine storage and more, the kitchen has a sophisticated feel. “We extended the kitchen to branch out beyond the lower ceiling and included a curved end island and outer cabinets,” says Stocker. “The majority of the cabinets were clad in a walnut veneer.” Black and- white tile by Kelly Wearstler for Ann Sacks lines the backsplash.

“We selected a Phillip Jeffries wallpaper for the bed wall with a Terrazzo vibe,” Stocker says. “The bed was custom-made by Nathan Anthony to expand the width of the nightstands. We selected a psychedelic carpet by Shaw Contract to liven up the space. The nightstands and bench were custom-made, and we used a classic Louis Poulsen pendant light to hover over the nightstands.”

Although much of the bathroom is done up in neutral shades, Stocker and his team decided to incorporate shots of color here and there. “We decided to have fun and do a free-standing tub in color... why not? We also created a theme incorporating curves in some shape or form on the cabinetry,” the designer says. “The cabinet is clad in tambour wood veneer, and the plumbing fixtures are from Pirch.” Just outside the bathroom, on the patio, is a playful hot pink poodle sculpture by Barone Art.

“We selected a ‘flower power’ carpet by Stark to set the tone for this bedroom,” says Stocker. “We kept the rest of the furnishing neutral to allow the carpet to take center stage. The bed and nightstands were custom made.”

After a year-and-a-half of drama-free work (“To be quite honest, [it all] went extremely smooth under the supervision of FieldXStudio,” Stocker says), the project is complete. Stocker, for one, is besotted with how it turned out. “I literally love every room! I can’t even pick one,” he shares. “This stunning residence perfectly embodies the vibrant essence of Palm Springs, seamlessly blending midcentury modern elegance with the area’s iconic aesthetic.”
