Even before Halloween, Los Angeles was alive with parties, events and galas. See below for what happened across the city in October.
On Oct. 5, the Los Angeles Philharmonic held its annual gala and celebrated both the 20th anniversary of the Walt Disney Concert Hall and honoree Frank Gehry, a longtime friend of the L.A. Phil and the architect of the venue. Special guests included L.A. Phil music and artistic director Gustavo Dudamel, Gehry, Lucinda Child, H.E.R., L.A. Phil creative chair Herbie Hancock, Alejandro González Iñárritu, Christoph Waltz, Geneva Lewis, Helen Hunt, Jeffrey Nordling, María Valverde, Matt Groening and Rob and Crystal Kung Minkoff. Proceeds from the gala went to support L.A. Phil community programs.
On Oct. 5, Mayenda Tequila toasted its West Coast debut at Ka’teen in Hollywood, which had a photo exhibition on display by Pia Riverola. Alongside raw and roasted bites by chef Wes Avila and custom cocktails, the evening included a scent station, custom photo moments and a postcard writing station. Attendees included Riverola, Nick Viall, Amanda McCants, Amirah Kassem, Annabelle Fleur, Lilliana Vazquez, Olivia Lopez, Elyanna Sanchez, Ziggy Mack Johnson, Leo Chan, Coura Fall, Eren Legend and more
Fitness empire Barry’s celebrated its 25-year anniversary with a slate of events. On Oct. 7, it held its largest-ever Red Room class in Hollywood with more than 225 guests, which was inclusive of Patrick Schwarzenegger and Dale Moss. Led by Barry’s CEO Joey Gonzalez and instructors Mercedes Owens, Tommy Stracke, Lindsey Clayton and Erick Wilson, the morning featured Woodway treadmills and a Red Room Recovery Area with activations by Liquid I.V., Therabody, FaceGym and 4AM Skin and cold plunges provided by Edge Theory. Ahead of the class, Barry’s threw its 25th-anniversary party on Oct. 5 at Red Studios. Also hosted by Gonzalez, the evening featured a drag show, a DJ set by Diplo, refreshments from Celsius, sips from Liquid IV, custom eye patches from 4AM SKIN and bites from a Barry’s-branded food truck. Attendees included Lance Bass, Max Greenfield, Becca Tobin, Colton Underwood, Dale Moss, Bobby Berk, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Justin Anderson, Linzy Luu and more.
Neiman Marcus commemorated its newly opened Schiaparelli boutique with an intimate celebration on Oct. 12 at the John Sowden House. Surrounded by surrealist touches like a replica of iconic Schiaparelli sculptures and an assortment of women’s apparel and handbags, guests enjoyed bites, cocktails and music by DJ Ben Brunnemer. Attending Hollywood elite included Jennifer Lopez, Demi Moore, Olivia Wilde, Regina King, Maya Rudolph, Natasha Lyonne, Gabrielle Union and Joey King.
Celebrity stylist Karla Welch and fashion house St. John hosted a volunteer session at Baby2Baby’s Los Angeles headquarters on Oct. 12. Supporting Baby2Baby’s mission to prove basic essentials to children living in poverty, Baby2Baby co-CEO Kelly Sawyer Patricof, Baby2Baby Angels Michelle Monaghan and Chriselle Lim, St. John Global CEO Andy Lew, St. John executive vice president of design Enrico Chiarparin, Katharine McPhee and more spent their afternoon putting together newborn and maternal care kits in preparation of the winter season. What’s more, in addition to a monetary gift, St. John donated products from Welch’s brand, The Period Company.
Cinespia closed out its outdoor season this month with a lineup of spooky screenings The Oct. 14 showing of Halloween attracted Hacks actress and comedian Meg Stalter, while the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix viewing on Oct. 21 welcomed Adam Demos, Sarah Shahi, Amanda Kloots and more.
Taking place at the Sowden House on Oct. 18, Maya Brenner welcomed the likes of restaurateur Dustin Lancaster, cookbook author Catherine McCord, Aaron Paul, Jerry O'Connell, Rebecca Romijn, Zach Gilford, Lindsay Sloane and more to commemorate the debut of her jewelry collaboration with the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation. In addition to a tour of the Lloyd-Wright-designed home, guests were treated to a viewing of the collection; a museum-style gifting room; catering from Simple Life Things and wines by Juliet.
What Goes Around Comes Around unveiled its exclusive capsule from the personal collection of the late legendary fashion editor André Leon Talley at its Beverly Hills store. Celebrating with an exclusive preview and private shopping experience on Oct. 19. WGACA welcomed Tracee Ellis Ross, Jodie Turner-Smith, Lori Harvey, Big Sean, Jhene Aiko, Liza Koshy, Lily Rabe and more to see first-hand a rare selection of Talley’s haute couture items, custom luggage, handbags and more.
On Oct. 21, Go Campaign—which raises awareness and funds to help vulnerable children around the world—held its annual Go Gala on Oct. 21 at Citizen News. Featuring a curated menu by chef Evan Funke and support from ambassador Robert Pattinson, guests included Suki Waterhouse, Lupita N’yongo, Robin Wright, Anne Archer, Christopher Titus, Ciara Robinson, Daphne Zuniga, Davida Williams, Rachel Bradley, Reinaldo Marcus Green, Sadie Stanley, Greg Tarzan Davis, Terri Nunn, Tony Curran and Torrance Coombs.
Knowing it's never too early to get into the Christmas spirit, Neiman Marcus debuted its Christmas Book, holiday campaign and the 2023 Fantasy Gifts on Oct. 24 at the Sunset Tower Hotel. Alongside seeing first-hand the extravagant Fantasy Gifts, attendees were treated to a musical performance by Leon Bridges; personalized ornaments by Bauble Bar and specialty cocktails inspired by Disney’s Wish. Notable guests included Zooey Deschanel, Simu Liu, Quinta Brunson and Rainey Qualley.
Just ahead of the holiday, Darren Dziencoil threw a pop icons Halloween party on Oct. 27 at a private estate in Beverly Hills. DJ’d by Grammy winner Kaytranada, guests enjoyed drinks by Solisca Tequila and Path Water. The exclusive guest list included Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Eiza Gonzalez, Saweetie, Tyga, Josephine Skriver, Jasmine Tookes, Kelsey Merritt, Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox.
The National Hispanic Media Coalition had its annual Impact Awards Gala on Oct. 27 in honor of outstanding individuals in the entertainment industry in front and behind the camera who are making strides toward a positive portrayal of the Latine community. Hosted by Francia Raisa and MJ Acosta-Ruiz, attendees included Eva Longoria, Eugenio Derbez, Miguel, Gina Torres, Jharrel Jerome, Ángel Manuel Soto and more.
Make-A-Wish Greater Los Angeles celebrated its I Wish Gala at the Fairmont Century Plaza on Oct. 28. Sponsored by Mattel and Disney and hosted by Anthony Anderson, the evening welcomed Mary and Romaine Bonnet, Dom Sherwood, Katie Cassidy, Dolph Lundgren, Josh Flagg and Crystal Minkoff, among others.
