Best known for her chic fine jewelry line that’s been spotted on everyone from Jennifer Aniston to Demi Moore to Kate Hudson, L.A. native Jennifer Meyer (jennifermeyer.com) is expanding her world to go beyond precious metals and sparkling gems. Starting with a recently launched eponymous fragrance inspired by her childhood spent in Malibu—and a candle in the same scent debuting this fall—the multihyphenate has plans to turn out a full-on lifestyle and beauty brand. Here, Meyer describes her debut scent and clues us in on what’s to come.
Where did you grow up? I’m an L.A. girl, born and raised.
Where do you currently reside in L.A.? I’m on the Westside.
Most people know you for your trendsetting and beautiful jewelry. What made you want to branch out and create a fragrance? I wanted to create something that was authentic to who I am and for it to be a seamless extension of the brand. I’ve always been obsessed with fragrances and beautiful scents, so this project was also personally rewarding and a true labor of love.
Is there a connection between your jewelry and the new fragrance? Was the perfume at all inspired by your jewelry or the vibe your jewelry gives off? The fragrance and jewelry were created from a similar idea: I wanted our customers to be able to wear them for every occasion. I think that they can become a part of who you are, and can be attached to special memories in your life.
When did you first become interested in scent? It’s funny, ask anyone who’s known me since high school—I’ve always been obsessed. I used to have multiple Bath & Body Works sprays in my car [and would] spray them on myself, friends, the car—everywhere! I always loved a good smell!
Is there a particular perfume you remember from when you were young? My first perfume was Calyx by Clinique. I was obsessed!
Are there any scents from your teen years that you used to love and wear? Calyx with a mix of Bath & Body Works!

Now let's talk more about your new fragrance. How would you describe it? It has all my favorite notes from coconut to strawberry to white floral and so much in between. The fragrance is clean and vegan and I’ve never smelled anything quite like it!
Why did you choose these particular elements? I was looking for that sexy, beautiful, just-got-home-from-the-beach smell. That feeling of being sun-kissed with ocean hair and smelling delicious. It took a year and a half but I finally got the scent I dreamed of.
How does that relate to who you are? I’m a beach baby—I grew up there. I love feeling fresh and clean but sexy, like someone wants to just… take a bite out of you. Not in the birthday cake sense but in the ‘OMG I need to smell her again’ sense.
Tell us more about how living in—and growing up in—L.A. plays into the fragrance. This scent represents my childhood memories of growing up at the beach in Malibu. I wanted it to be a fresh and yummy smell, like you just spent a day at the beach.

How do you see people wearing the fragrance? During the day? At night? All the time? All the time, for everything, day and night! It’s summer in a bottle, and who doesn’t want to smell like that all year round!
How involved were you in the project? I was involved in every aspect of it—creating the scent, packaging, marketing and development. You name it... I was on every email and call! It was really important for me to get it right.
What surprised you most about the process? How many tiny little scents can change a smell so drastically.
What was the most challenging aspect? Honestly, I wouldn’t say there was anything challenging. It was exciting to push myself and learn a whole new world about beauty.
Do you have plans to expand the line? If so, what can you tell us about what's next? Yes, I’m loving the expansion into the lifestyle and beauty space. Stayed tuned, there are more exciting things to come!
What else are you working on these days? What can readers expect from you the rest of the year? In addition to expanding the JM brand, our latest jewelry collection launched with some of my new favorite pieces, and soon we’ll start gearing up for the holiday season.
