Karaoke Fever

| April 20, 2012 | Parties

THE PARTY A night of philanthropy with celebs headlining, singing karaoke tunes to raise funds for UNICEF’s Schools for Africa initiative, hosted by Tom Bergeron at the El Rey Theatre THE PLAYERS Performers Pau Gasol, Don Cheadle, Kristen Bell, Seamus Dever, Regina Hall, Jon Huertas, James Denton, Kyle MacLachlan, Scott Grimes; co-chairs Desiree Gruber, Shelley Litvack, Andrea and David Nevins, Christina Zilber; guests Molly Shannon, Yvette Nicole Brown, Laura Leighton, Retta Sirleaf THE HIGHLIGHTS Stage fright was an afterthought as the star lineup belted out pop standards. Pau Gasol chose The Fray’s “How to Save a Life”—appropriately timed after his discovery the night before that he was to remain on the Lakers team for the rest of the season. The evening ended on a jovial note when Heidi Klum, in an elaborate Native American headdress, took to the stage for a lively rendition of “YMCA,” calling on famous friends including Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson to join her act—with corresponding Village People headwear, naturally.
