I first met Kathy Rose by chance in Sedona. Rose was in town for a trunk show at Mii amo resort, where she set up an eye-catching display filled with the most special pieces—jewelry and apparel that seemed to glow with intentionality and beauty.
As it turns out, I had known of Rose indirectly for years. Along with opening her store Kaviar on Sunset Blvd., she was a partner at L.A. jewelry boutique Roseark, the store she co-founded more than 20 years ago that stood out for its dedication to artisan-driven lines. (She is no longer involved). Since leaving Roseark, she started Argyle & Valentine by Kathy Rose, which along with showcasing her own jewelry—plus jewelry, artwork and apparel by Laura Ball, K. Brunini Jewels, James Banks, Karma El Khalil, Charlie Walker, Alison Van Pelt, Sunchild, One Moon Cashmere and more—offers a highly personalized concierge service in an almost sacred gallery setting. Clients can book appointments at Rose’s Encino space and at her soon-to-open Argyle & Valentine by Kathy Rose gallery on Abbot Kinney this Feb.—to consult on what jewelry fits best into their collections, how to rework heirloom pieces and so much more.
Stepping into Argyle & Valentine is like stepping into another world. Along with high jewelry, custom pieces and a selection of antique and estate jewelry sourced globally, Rose displays candelabras from the 18th century, rare paintings, photography, Persian rugs and collectible candles with crushed gems. “The connecting thread is the shared intention of creating transformative work that resonates on an energetic level,” says Rose, who grew up surrounded by art and artifacts at her family’s Santa Barbara gallery. “Each artist I collaborate with brings a deep reverence for craftsmanship.”

Over the years, Rose has worked with a number of A-listers, including Rihanna, Penelope Cruz, Miley Cyrus, Madonna and more. “Elizabeth Taylor owned my cognac diamond whale, a piece I designed after my daughter was born and lovingly called ‘Saffron’s Mystical Whale,’” she shares. “My dear friend Kristian Nairn from Game of Thrones and I have been working on a celestial collection of jewelry for over five years. Our first piece, “The Witch’s Broom,” launches in Jan. and will be available in rose, white and yellow gold. We plan to release a new design every quarter.”
Rose has been close with client and friend Alanis Morisette for decades. “I remember walking into her store and being blown away at her ability to curate the most breathtaking and originally designed pieces,” says Morisette. “Her passion and knowledge of the artisans’ backstories and approaches is inspiring to behold. She honors the artists’ processes and celebrates their unique expression,” she adds. “Kathy is a true artist’s artist. [Her] taste has always been grounded in a sensuality that denotes how sensitive and intuitive she is. I also deeply resonate with her shamanistic approach to life and her soulful awareness of the subtle.”
Rose plans to host various workshops and ceremonies at her new Abbott Kinney space, as well as intimate jewelry previews and gemstone programming sessions. “Argyle & Valentine is designed to be more than just a gallery—it’s a destination for creativity and connection,” she says. “I love creating designs, sharing them with the world and discovering the pièce de résistance created by designers and fine artists. What truly fills my soul is the heart-opening and the look on a person’s face when they discover their piece. It’s not just about the jewelry; it’s about the healing and the magic that happens when art and energy merge.”
