Michelin-starred Kali has a casual-concept new sibling.
On Jan. 29, chef Kevin Meehan and sommelier Drew Langley opened the doors to their new restaurant, Kōast Melrose.
The Melrose Avenue restaurant showcases a creative approach to seasonal seafood dishes.
“It’s been an incredibly exciting journey bringing Kōast Melrose to life,” Meehan said. “With this restaurant, I wanted to create a casual, welcoming spot where the neighborhood can enjoy fresh seafood without any pretense. It’s all about great food, a fun atmosphere and a place people can keep coming back to.”
Kōast Melrose is Meehan’s first new restaurant since opening Kali nine years ago, which first earned a Michelin star in 2019 for its exquisite contemporary California cuisine. This new endeavor carries the same high standards to its more approachable menu. Dish highlights include lobster-baked manicotti, grilled tiger prawns, seasonal seafood chowder, crab dip with spicy country crackers and crispy scallop cakes with avocado remoulade.
Langley, who was also part of the opening team at Providence, complements the sustainably sourced menu with a wine program featuring an extensive by-the-glass list.
The neighborhood spot-spirit of Kōast Melrose is matched by a calming interior by Cory Surovesk of Studio Surovesk. Ocean hues in the upholstery bring a vibrance to the inviting minimalism of the interior’s exposed steel beams, raw concrete floors and sanded-down woods. Further allowing for the food to be the star of the show, satin pewter-toned cutlery, metal service wear and matte white, ceramic plates and bowls reinforce a tranquil but welcoming dining experience.
With reservations available on OpenTable, Kōast Melrose is open seven days a week from 5 to 9 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome.
Kōast Melrose is located at 6623 Melrose Ave 90038.
