Before the turn of the century, Madonna was the gold standard of shock value in pop music.
And this Thursday, you can turn back time and witness it before your very eyes.
On Oct. 28, Exposition Park hosts the 30-year anniversary screening of Madonna: Truth or Dare. Capturing the scandalous, iconic Blond Ambition Tour, the documentary set a precedent for its depiction of modern celebrity culture. Along the way, fans will be able to relish in classic songs and legendary moments.
Presented by haircare company Imbue, festivities will kick off with a live vogue showcase hosted by Icon Mother Devine Gorgeous Gucci, Shaun Ross and Legendary Damon with a DJ set from MAAD.
During the screenings, guests can order on-site from LaSorted’s Pizza variety of wood-fired, sourdough and classic pizzas, in addition to a number of beverages and alcohol.
Now that we’re fully into the swing of fall, you’ll want to bring a number of blankets and cushions to get cozy while sitting on Exposition Park’s South Lawn. Or, if you’re looking for some more structured support, you can opt to bring a chair. Just be sure it's one that’s fairly low to the ground.
After the screening, get ready to get back up on your feet. The night will cap with an “Express Yourself” dance party— the only proper way to honor one of pop’s greatest legends. However, you’ll be in for more than just speakers bumping Madonna’s top hits. Desire will spin a special selection of Madonna covers from the Italians Do It Better label, while artpop duo Mothermary will perform their version of “Like a Virgin.”
The multi-faceted celebration is arguably the most fun way to head into Halloween weekend. Maybe you’ll even get some last-minute costume inspo.
Released in 1991, Truth or Dare chronicles a behind-the-scenes look at Madonna and her relationships with family, friends, then-boyfriend Warren Beatty and her dancers while embarking around the world on the Blonde Ambition Tour. Offering a groundbreaking, intimate glimpse into an artist known for her drive and individuality, Truth or Dare also became a mainstream milestone for its unapologetic depiction of queer life and culture for its focus on the highs and lows of Madonna’s family of dancers.
Tickets begin at $25 for general admission. $40-VIP tickets include reserved seating and complimentary alcoholic beverages and snacks.
