They say necessity is the mother of invention, and that was certainly the case with Kim Bui, founder of Maisel—the genius phone cases that strengthen babies’ cognitive development. We checked in with the multitasking mama for her motherhood musts.

After the birth of her daughter, Kim Bui found herself regularly taking photos of her baby and FaceTiming friends and family with her little one—who often stared at the back of her phone case. Soon after, Bui launched Maisel, (hellomaisel.com), a collection of cases featuring black-and-white high-contrast artwork proven to help strengthen babies’ cognitive development. “When you’re taking pictures or videos of your little one, you’re also promoting their brain growth,” says Bui. “Flipping through black-and-white flashcards with a newborn was unrealistic for me, but the reality is that we are using our phones around our babies quite often.” Bui’s mission is to build a community of parents who support one another as they all do their best to juggle their authentic selves with new expectations of parenthood. “Our hope is that carrying a Maisel case becomes a symbol for ‘I’m a realistic modern parent too!’” Here, the innovator shares the baby items she’s obsessing over.
