Growing up in the ‘80s and ‘90s, design publicist Erik Perez took style inspiration from movies and TV. “And, of course, telenovelas, where the fashion was always over-the-top,” says Perez, originally from Mexico. After dabbling in trendy looks in his post-college years and more conservative pieces, he’s found that “classic with a twist” suits him best. During the pandemic, Perez started experimenting more with his style. “I started looking for bold pieces to add to my wardrobe on resale sites and began having fun with my wardrobe. Instead of thinking, ‘I can’t pull it off,’ I started saying, ‘F%&k it. I love it.’” Fitted white oxfords from Prada and Ami Paris or custom tees from Son of a Tailor paired with jeans or relaxed chinos and a blazer are all go-to pieces for Perez, who also favors unique items, like a vintage kimono smoking jacket he recently purchased on Etsy. “L.A. is such a relaxed city that it allows me to be creative and not take fashion too seriously,” he says. “It’s a place where anything goes, and as long as you feel good, you can rock it!”

With his statement-making Versace shirts and suits, bespoke pieces and signature fedora, Charlie Alfano’s vibrant style is impossible to ignore. But he didn’t always possess fashion confidence. Originally from Chicago, Alfano became more interested in style when he moved to L.A. more than 30 years ago. The president of Mercedez-Benz of Gilbert, who splits his time between Los Angeles and Paradise Valley, Ariz., shares that his style “[evolved from] practical to progressive. More luxe, more daring and bolder with age,” he adds. “My product is the ultimate in luxury, so it allows me to incorporate a level of couture, fun and always a bit of surprise.” Pieces such as his new Panerai Luminor Regatta watch, Ferragamo shoes—which he describes as the “most comfortable”—and suits and shirts from both Versace and a custom tailor define Alfano’s look these days, which he calls “[a] mix between beach style and cutting edge. I see it; I love it. I buy it; I wear it.”

“When I was younger, my sister used to think I was her little toy doll, so she’d dress me up for fun,” says Lougè Delcy. “It turned out to be something I enjoyed, and her love for style rubbed off on me. I became obsessed with looking my best.” Nowadays, the Brooklyn-born bicoastal photographer’s style reflects his dad’s influence and the cultures Delcy photographs worldwide. “[My dad] taught me to embrace self-expression and individualism, which now reflects in how I carry myself and even how I dress,” he shares, adding he loves learning about—and celebrating—clothing from other cultures. “For instance, after visiting Thailand, I fell in love with the fisherman pants and, later, the boubou garb from Senegal. I cherish these experiences as a way of honoring their beautiful cultures while making them a part of my own identity.” While his signature hat is a must when getting dressed, other outfit items are determined by Delcy’s mood. “When I wake up feeling bright and cheerful, I’ll wear an all-white or colorful look,” says the artist, who is currently in Brazil creating new work. “On days when I crave a bit of mystery, it’s all about the all-black look. But no matter what, I always inject a healthy dose of personality into my outfits, no matter the occasion.”

When asked to describe his style, Jake Rodehuth-Harrison’s answer couldn’t be more specific. “It varies between two looks that I like to call ‘vacation dad’ and ‘90’s sitcom dad,’ which basically includes slouchy jeans, bold printed rayon or silk shirts, and Converse or leather slip-ons,” he shares. “It’s easy and playful. I do sometimes go for a ‘90s art dealer’ vibe as well, which was heavily inspired by the oversized checkered Marni for Uniqlo suit I’m wearing in this picture.” The AD100 designer recently opened a showroom downtown for his new firm, HUBBAHUBBA, which features items he designed and reworked vintage pieces. “When I started HUBBAHUBBA, I wanted to explore multiple corners of the design industry, so the showroom will be a fun exploration of ideas I’ve been scheming for years,” says Rodehuth-Harrison, who’s also busy working on residential projects around town. Besides Levi’s 501 ‘93 Straight Fit jeans, Uniqlo t-shirts, Block Shop Textiles bandanas and Converse, expect to see the Idaho native in his Baboon to the Moon fanny pack. “It’s seriously a game changer as it holds SO much and is super stylish,” he says. “I have it in multiple colors to match or clash with what I wear.”

French designer Marc Ange made a splash in the design world in 2017 when Le Refuge, his flamingo pink daybed bedecked with palm trees, debuted at Milan Design Week. What may have been the most Instagrammed piece from the fair made its way back to L.A. via a photo-ready set-up at The Beverly Hills Hotel. While this particular piece makes a bold statement, Ange prefers to dress in a more understated manner. “Right now, I’m looking for a form of simplicity, effortless, where a kind of coherence expresses elegance with the context: no effect, no pomp, no staging,” says Ange, who takes style inspiration from his work, art, movies and places around the world. “My work constantly drives me to seek inspiration from various sources, opening up new perspectives and fostering an evolving taste,” says the designer, who counts his grandfather’s watch and sunglasses by L.A.-based Jacques Marie Mage as accessory staples, along with custom jackets, blazers and coats by Parisian tailors. “However, I maintain a filter that helps me integrate these fresh influences into my style while preserving a timeless essence.” Ange is keeping busy this season, working on the design of chef Daniel Boulud’s upcoming restaurant at the Mandarin Oriental in Beverly Hills, residential and hospitality projects, and package design, including the highly anticipated new fragrance by Jean-Paul Gaultier. “My style has evolved, influenced by changing trends, but I have never been one to simply follow fashion,” Ange explains. “Moving from Paris to L.A. sparked significant transformations, as the city’s unique energy inspired a distinct and refreshing aesthetic attitude.”
