Make room because Messhall Kitchen is adding a little something new to its menu! The beloved Los Feliz restaurant is hosting its first annual film festival over the course of one month on November 14, 16, 28 and 30.
What's more, the four free public showings will also be accompanied by the exclusive Messhall Film Festival Menu available during the shows.
The film festival will feature eight short films paying homage to the Los Feliz neighborhood and the restaurant itself. It is the ultimate bringing together of the community— both Messhall kitchen staff and regulars at the restaurant who work in the industry collaborated to bring these films to life. This initiative only adds to Messhall’s long history of support for those in creative industries. The restaurant prides itself on giving flexible schedules and financial support to staff using the job as a stepping stone to pursue their dreams.
Since its opening ten years ago, Messhall has become a favorite among A-listers. The restaurant has been the location for the coming together of talented staff and knowledgeable professionals. From directors to actors and even writers, the Messhall serves them all.
Long-time employees Jon Bangle and Andrew Pack realized this unique opportunity to create something special. The staff could highlight their talents and skills by utilizing the knowledge of industry experts they serve regularly.
“We’re all familiar with the uniquely L.A. trope about a restaurant server hoping to be 'discovered' while waiting on a producer or director, but these brilliant fellas broke down the typical divide and brought regulars and staff together on a series of joyous, delirious overnights of collaborative filmmaking,” explained Charles Papert, a director. “I’ve been a regular at Messhall from the start, but participating in this festival has really fed my love for the venue and the people who work there. It has created a truly unique sense of community that is all too elusive in this town. I cannot wait for the screening to see what everyone brought!”
For those looking to experience the Messhall Film Festival firsthand, four dates throughout November will be available with film showings on the large patio from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., which presents the perfect time to enjoy the special menu items. You must try Messhall’s famous burgers, BBQ specials and raw bar with fresh oysters while you’re there.
