As the end of 2024 approaches, November rolls in with the first look at major award season contenders. From blockbuster sequels to new seasons of beloved streamer series, here’s what to watch this month.
Cannes Film Festival standout Emilia Pérez will be released in a limited number of theaters this month. Starring Zoe Saldaña, Karla Sofía Gascón and Selena Gomez, this French musical crime comedy follows a lawyer hired by a cartel leader to help fake her death. It’ll later hit Netflix on Nov. 13.

A24’s next horror film captures the fearsome tale of two young missionaries who become trapped in the home of the twisted Mr. Reed. It stars Hugh Grant, Sophie Thatcher, Chloe East and Topher Grace.

The Garvey sisters are back two years after the “accidental” death of one of their husbands. Just when things seem to have settled, the tight-knit siblings are put into the spotlight, and suspicions become higher than ever.

A sequel to the ‘90s blockbuster, Twisters offers an all-new adventure of chasing tornadoes for a generation attuned to the digital world. Starring Daisy Ridley and Glenn Powell, a social media superstar competes with serious storm chasers.

Whitney, Kimberly, Bela and Leighton are back to take on another term at New England’s prestigious Essex College. Created by Mindy Kaling, it stars Pauline Chalamet, Amrit Kaur, Alyah Chanelle Scott, Christopher Meyer, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, Renika Williams, Gracie Lawrence and Mia Rodgers.

Much time has passed since Maximus Decimus Meridius fought Emperor Commodus to death and restored a new hope for Rome. Now, the state of the empire is bleaker than ever under the rule of diabolical twin emperors. A new era is on the line when prisoner Lucius Verus (Paul Mescal) is forced to fight as a gladiator, falling under the ownership and tutelage of former slave and elite Roman Macrinus (Denzel Washington). The star-studded cast also features Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Freddie Hechinger and Connie Nielsen.

The Broadway phenomenon finally comes to the big screen. Starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, part one of the fantasy musical sets the foundation for Elphaba’s transformation into the Wicked Witch of the West and Galinda the Good Witch of the North. The cast also features Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Jonathan Bailey, Peter Dinklage and Bowen Yang.

Set three years after the first film, Moana and Maui team back up for a new voyage at the behest of her ancestors. Starring Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson, the cast also includes Nicole Scherzinger, Rose Matafeo and Alan Tudyk.
