Otis College of Art and Design honored the new vanguards of California luxury at its annual art and design awards. Jenni Kayne, creator of the soulful lifestyle brand, accepted the 2016 Style Icon Award and VP of Design, Rachel Wilder-Hill accepted the 2016 Design Innovation Award on behalf of contemporary comfortable-luxury brand Joie at the black-tie gala, held at The Beverly Hilton. Rosemary Brantley, founding chair of Otis’ Fashion Design program, was paid a special tribute for her outstanding leadership in building the curriculum and the benefit show to provide her students with direct access to top designers in the industry. The runway presentation of over 120 original student designs is L.A.’s largest annual fashion show. This year, juniors and seniors worked with Todd Oldham for Metro Los Angeles, Bob Mackie, and top designers from such brands as Uniqlo, Prairie Underground, Joie, Nanette Lepore, Lucky Brand, Amuse Society, Blu Pony Vintage, Michi, Perry Ellis, and J Brand. Select designs will also be displayed in the windows of Neiman Marcus in Beverly Hills.
