Power of the Purse

| July 30, 2013 | Parties National

THE PARTY Arm candy galore beckoned L.A.’s leading fashionistas and philanthropists for an afternoon of shopping at the home of Meredith Kaplan, all in the name of raising money for arts education in underserved communities. THE SCENE Lured by the sight of tables piled high with fresh-from-the-runway bags by the likes of Alexander McQueen, ChloĆ©, Chanel, Bruno Magli and YSL, more than 200 charity-minded shoppers including event founders George Kotsiopoulos and Elizabeth Stewart flocked to the Beverly Hills estate to place their bids. Also on hand for the occasion was local design maven Clare Vivier, whose vividly hued goods could be spotted in the mix. Lisa Kudrow was spied snapping up a John Varvatos piece, while fellow actor Kristin Davis vied for a Givenchy number. More than $150,000 was raised, with 240 items up for auction. THE HIGHLIGHTS The bag theme continued throughout the afternoon, as guests sprawled throughout the gardens and enjoyed brown-bag lunches paired with mini Pressed Juicery refreshments.
