American tradition on New Year’s Day isn’t just about football. Long before kickoff happens, whether along Pasadena sidewalks or watching on TV from the couch, the annual Rose Parade unfolds. Here’s everything you need to know about it.
The Rose Parade, a.k.a. The Tournament of Roses, will take place on Jan. 1, 2024 from 8 to 10 a.m. in Pasadena. Tickets are required.
Whether you’re planning your commute in to watch the parade or you simply live in the area, don’t forget road closures begin at 10 p.m. on Dec. 31 and last until 2 p.m. on Jan. 1, 2024. You’ll want to avoid Colorado Boulevard between Orange Grove and Sierra Madre Boulevards and northbound on Sierra Madre to Paloma Street.
You can buy parking via the Sharp Seating Company, Colorado Blvd. Parking, the City of Pasadena, LAZ Parking, Easy Parking Service and AP Parking. There is also first-come, first-served paid parking at various lots and structures, and overnight parking on Pasadena streets starts at noon on Dec. 31 for that night only. Alternatively, you can take the metro to the Del Mar, Memorial Park, Lake or Allen Stations to get you within blocks of the parade route. You can also consider rideshare services and the Metrolink, which will have special early-morning train services on the San Bernardino, Antelope Valley, Orange County, Ventura County and 91 Perris Valley lines just for the parade.
Mostly happening along Colorado Boulevard, floral floats, marching bands, horses and more trek five-and-a-half miles across the city in an impressive display of craftsmanship and artisanal prowess. You can plan to see floats from the American Armenian Rose Float Assoc., the City of Burbank, the San Diego Zoo and more.
Jan. 1 isn’t always the easiest day to be somewhere by 8 a.m., so don’t forget you can always watch the Rose Parade right at home on ABC, Cowboy Channel, Cowgirl Channel, Great American Family, KTLA, NBC or RFD TV. It’s also being live-streamed for the first time ever, so you can also watch via Amazon Freevee, LG Channels, Samsung TV Plus, Sling Freestream, The Roku Channel, VIZIO WatchFree+, Tubi, Plex, Fuubo and Tablo TV.
The Rose Parade is a Pasadena tradition that’s been happening for more than a century that is beloved across the nation.
The Rose Parade is located between Orange Grove and Colorado Boulevards.
