THE PARTY A full ballroom at the Beverly Hilton Hotel served as the brightly lit setting for a ceremony, silent auction and dinner hosted by Jenna Elfman, who peppered the evening with Lucille Ball’s brand of slapstick humor. She even donned a black tooth while introducing presenters, including Ed O’Neill and Meryl Streep. THE PLAYERS Poppy Montgomery, Tom Rothman, Emma Watts, Elizabeth Gabler, Nancy Utley, Claudia Lewis, Vanessa Morrison Murchison, Diahann Carroll, Nicola Maramotti, Julie Benz THE HIGHLIGHTS Longtime friend O’Neill presented honoree Christina Applegate with the 2012 Norma Zarky Humanitarian Award for her nonprofit cancer foundation. While accepting the honor, Applegate quipped, “Meryl Streep, without you, I wouldn’t be on this stage. Sorry, I just always wanted to say that.” THE ONE-LINER “Eight minutes of screen time in the film Doubt delivered her dream to her; [Viola Davis received] heads-up notice throughout the industry.
