Mammoth Lakes is welcoming a new resort, the Sierra Nevada Resort, an Outbound Hotel, just in time for ski season.
In close proximity to the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, Mammoth Lakes Hiking Trails, the east gate of Yosemite National Park and the Bishop Airport, guests can enjoy a luxurious experience indoors, the freedom of the great outdoors and relaxation at new re-debut of the resort.
The resort now includes 79 accommodations including deluxe rooms, fireplace suites and chalets as well as a contemporary dining concept and wine bar. Ten free-standing cabins will also join the property in April 2023, along with a heated pool, spa tub and outdoor food garden with food trucks in Summer 2023.
Known to many as a second home to Hollywood celebrities like John Wayne, Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra, this 1967 building now welcomes guests to the modernization of the classic location. The multi-year redesign and renovation, led by San-Francisco based studio EDG Design, ensured the preservation of iconic features such as the centerpiece fireplace. The Americana inspiration for the resort’s new look is visible through the warm lighting, comfortable leather chairs and rawhide stools as well as a gallery wall featuring black-and-white photographs of former celebrity guests.
“It’s been an honor to thoughtfully restore and reimagine this historic property while keeping intact its early Hollywood legacy and unbridled spirit,” says managing director Brent Truax. “We couldn’t be prouder to debut the destination’s newest basecamp in time for ski season and welcome back adventurers to help us celebrate a new era for Sierra Nevada Resort, with the same warm mountain hospitality we’ve always been known for.”
The Sierra Nevada Resort offers a multitude of luxury spaces for every type of party. Guestrooms— 15 of which include fireplace suites with mountain views— are complete the image with nostalgic art, illustrated maps and western patterns. It also offers customized ski and snowboard racks made from upcycled salvaged timber sustainably sourced from forest fires at the Yosemite National Park.
What's more, the resort’s 19 chalets are perfect for visiting families or groups with multi-bedroom configurations, full kitchens and dining rooms. For smaller parties looking for the utmost privacy and comfort, in April 2023 the resort will open ten brand new one-bedroom cabins with modern skylights, private fireplaces and alpine furniture.
Stepping into the lobby, guests will be met with welcoming pleasantries like the wine bar featuring international wines curated by the resort’s wine director and advanced sommelier, Chip Ermish, and local coffee and pastries at the coffee bar. Another modernized feature of the hotel is the new restaurant, the Bar Sierra. It will offer 16 on-tap local and regional craft beers, as well as a private dining room, al fresco dining area and a walk-up window by the pool. Adding to the classic feel of the resort’s redesign, the Bar Sierra will also have an arcade room filled with vintage games like Pac-Man.
With a prime location mere minutes away from California’s highest chairlift-serviced peak and one of the country’s longest natural snow seasons, a stay at the Sierra Nevada Resort will be worry-free. The hotel offers the ideal ease and leisure for guests with complimentary shuttle pick-up and drop-off to the lifts every 15 minutes and an onsite Outbound Adventure Center with a rental equipment concierge service, which will fit, deliver and pick up the best snow gear right to and from a guest’s room.
