Silver Lining

THE PARTY Celebrities, philanthropists and the medical community came together in support of the Venice Family Clinic, a community healthcare system boasting 10 Westside facilities that provide primary healthcare to the area’s less fortunate. Held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, the 34th annual Silver Circle Gala was hosted by TV personality Larry King and raised an impressive $1.5 million. THE SCENE A silent auction filled with covetable items, including luxury getaways to Paris and Melbourne got the crowd going, but CEO of DreamWorks Animation Jeffrey Katzenberg presenting Hollywood heavyweight Brett Ratner with the Humanitarian Award, and Venice Family Clinic Executive Director and CEO Liz Benson Forer honoring Bill Flumenbaum with the Irma Colen Leadership Award were of the most memorable moments of the night. THE HIGHLIGHTS While accepting his award, Ratner said: “Having access to medical care is the most basic thing there is. If we treat it as if it’s a privilege, we have lost our compassion.” The filmmaker then surprised guests by welcoming his close friend Mariah Carey to the stage to auction off a VIP package, which included tickets to her Vegas show, private airfare and more. Good medicine, indeed. –Photos by Michael Kovac and Todd Williamson/Getty Images
