After traveling the world for two decades, sisters Payal and Hasina Patel surrounded themselves with some truly exceptional pieces. A recent trip across Asia had them pondering the connection between travel, rituals, heritage and legacy—leading to the opening of Behnaia, their jewel box pop-up shop open through December at Platform LA. “Everything is hand-sourced and carries a beautiful story of preserving craftsmanship or the environment,” says Hasina of the contemporary and vintage pieces from India and South Africa. From rare books to jewelry to bromide paintings and a Malabar chest used to store jaggery during the Dutch East Spice Trade, the shop sparkles with authenticity and interest. “We believe every design begins with a story,” says Payal. Here, the L.A.- based sisters reveal some of their favorite finds.
