The Party Nearly 650 guests paid tribute to artists Barbara Kruger and Cindy Sherman at the sold-out soirĂ©e, which raised $2 million for the contemporary art museum’s free public programs and heralded exhibitions. The Players Hosts Steve Martin and Rachel Maddow; Will Ferrell, Ed Ruscha, Catherine Opie The Highlights Maddow and Martin honored Kruger and Sherman respectively in the museum’s lantern-filled courtyard. The MSNBC host acknowledged Kruger as an inspiration and influence on her life, noting that she’s used some of the artist’s political and provocative typographical one-liners to make herself sound smarter. The Quote “The works that speak to me at this very moment would be Cindy’s ‘Untitled Film Still #39’—it’s so feminine and intimate—and Barbara Kruger’s ‘You Want It You Need It You Buy It You Forget It.’ In this economy, trying to watch one’s budget?
