Home to the NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers and LA Clippers, LA Kings, and the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks, the Staples Center has long been one of the most iconic venues for the entertainment industry. However, on Dec. 25, that all changes. Following a 20-year agreeement between AEG and Crypto.com, the House that Kobe Built will henceforth be known as Cypto.com Arena.
AEG and Crypto.com will be unveiling the new logo and branding of the arena on the Christmas Day Lakers and Brooklyn Nets game. Under this partnership, the 20,000-seat, award-winning arena has a lot in store for its future. First on the list is innovating the sports and entertainment industry. One of the ways they are attempting to do this is by committing to prioritizing sustainability and community, meaning Crypto.com will be adopting a plan to become carbon negative, or offsetting more carbon than they generate, by the end of 2022.
“We’re very excited about partnering with AEG and investing long term in this city, starting with Crypto.com Arena in the heart of downtown, and using our platform in new and creative ways so that cryptocurrency can power the future of world-class sports, entertainment and technology for fans in LA and around the world,” Crypto.com co-founder and CEO Kris Marszalek said.
Founded in 2016m Crypto.com has quickly become the fastest-growing crypto app and now serves over 10 million customers. This partnership is set to only help expand the company's reach now that it has become the official cryptocurrency partner of the Lakers and L.A. Kings. Crypto.com even partnered with Matt Damon to create its first global campaign to help introduce the platform to users and ventures in the sports industry.
This historic name change was in thanks to Nick Baker and Russell Silvers from AEG and Steven Kalifowitz from Crypto.com, who came to a quick agreement on the partnership. Both sides agreed after understanding that they wanted to create a unique experience for Los Angeles and fans from all around the world.
As fans, we don’t need to mourn the loss of the Staples Center but can instead look forward to all the exciting things the Crypto.com Arena has in store for us!
