THE PARTY The arts organization credited with kick-starting the careers of emerging designers is back. CEO Marc Lotenberg gathered L.A. creatives at one of Chateau Marmont’s bungalows to celebrate illustrious GenArt alum Sophie Buhai and the line she designs with Lisa Mayock. St. Vincent (Annie Clark) and Tennessee Thomas provided the evening’s soundtrack. THE PLAYERS
Jenny Lewis, Natasha Lyonne, Bella Heathcote, Phoebe Tonkin, Claiborne Swanson Frank, Clea Duvall, Teresa Palmer, Julia Jones, Kelly Oxford, Annie Monroe, Christy Carlson Romano THE HIGLIGHTS As guests assembled poolside for St. Vincent’s vocals, actresses clad in Vena Cava’s fall collection—’40s dresses and pants with bold tailoring inspired by noir films including Chinatown and The Long Goodbye—evoked an era of elegance and ease that’s often missing from today’s parties. The girls looked polished and chic as Clark’s plaintive voice provided the soundtrack to another endless summer. The evening brought to mind yesteryear’s GenArt Fresh Faces in Fashion gatherings, which introduced such talent as Rodarte and Phillip Lim. Here’s to the resurgence of sophistication.Photography by John Sciulli/Wireimage
