After more than sixteen years of design and development, one of five exclusive mid-century modern estates in the newest gated community, The Case, in Malibu is finally complete and now available. The Edge, a 10,527-square-foot, fully furnished, five-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bath home is listed at $70 million.
Named after its 75-foot infinity pool and complemented by stunning panoramic ocean views, The Edge emulates the experience of diving right into the Pacific Ocean. It incorporates the luxuriousness of both the indoors and outdoors with an open floor plan, floor-to-ceiling windows alongside hand-picked natural materials with a clean atmosphere and soft gray tones.
The 24-acre, untouched property was purchased by luxury home designer and builder Scott Gillen for a record-breaking $50 million with the intention of building five homes. Called The Case, the concept aims to incorporate the principles of mid-century modern architecture and pays homage to the natural coastal beauty of Malibu.
The Edge is offered turnkey, inclusive of Gillen’s own original designs alongside hand-picked and custom Minotti.
“For all my projects I need to be inspired by the property. Is it south facing? How’s the privacy? Does it have “estate value”? It’s location, location, location and the location of The Case is the best of the best of Malibu and in this post-COVID world, there is no better place to live than Malibu,” Gillen said.
“I immediately knew it would be great. I visualized an amazing compound of architectural homes leaning in on the principles and pulling many of the iconic elements from the greats of mid-century modern design, which is why I name the community The Case. But to be honest, I had no idea what I would “see” when I got to the end of this long, long tunnel. And hard doesn’t come close to defining what I’ve been through to get to where we are today, with The Edge finished and the rest of the homes almost there. I am reminded everyday that I’m so fortunate to work with literally hundreds of carpenters, painters, concrete finishers, craftsmen, tradesmen, project managers, foremen and everyone else who make up my team. They know that I can be a bit demanding and that compromise about my work is not in my vocabulary, so it is incredibly rewarding seeing them perform, day in and day out, at the highest level so I can design, execute, and deliver the highest quality homes out there, The Edge being just the latest example," Gillen said.
The home was created with the opulence of a resort in mind, featuring a custom Bulthaup chef’s kitchen, outdoor kitchen and cabana, as well as a bonus suite with a private entrance. Adding to the oasis-like ambience, the main bedroom offers an outdoor spa and sliding glass doors in every room perfectly frame picture-esque views from Palos Verde to Point Dume and Catalina Island.
Inspired by homes from the 1950s and 1960s, The Edge combines both artful extravagance and modernity in its many refined features, resulting in elegant sophistication. The estate includes a handmade teak wine room fit for more than 800 bottles, a glass-enclosed and teak-trimmed private library and a state-of-the-art home floating room cinema— all perfect for entertaining guests.
Within the gated community, each homeowner will experience both exceptional comfort and privacy with a 24/7 manned guard gate and security.
