Between the releases of Lorde’s “Mood Ring” video and Hulu’s new drama “Nine Perfect Strangers,” the concept of wellness (namely those who establish a platform off of it) has come under a relevant, critical lens.
But wellness at its core isn’t so controversial; it’s the active pursuit of holistic health to meet your physical, mental, spiritual and social needs. Basically it understands that caring for one’s self involves a number of considerations. When approached appropriately, it’s about more than the sun salutations and burning of sage that our favorite Kiwi popstar sings about.
Wellness also doesn’t require journeying to a health-and-wellness resort for body restoration, like the one Kidman’s Masha leads in the Hulu show. In fact, you can engage with the idea of wellness just from a screen. From learning how to practice healthy eating to encompassing positive affirmations into your daily routine, wellness influencers can be a great, digital guide. See six of them below.
The co-host of Sirius XM’s “Sway in the Morning” is also a wellness artist. Her Instagram finds balance in personal and wellness content with affirmation posts that lock in on both the energy of Rihanna and how to release the past. Tracy G is all about encouraging women exploring their layers, men amplifying their divine femininity and people of color to embrace self care. On her website she explains her ease in discussing non-attachment, concealer techniques and the state of Kanye West’s soul. Earlier this summer, she was featured at the Essence Festival of Culture Wellness House.
Followed by the likes of Kiernan Shipka and Chloe Fineman, Jeannette Ogden brings a motherly lens to the world of wellness. Shutthekaleup began as a place for Ogden to open up how she overcame her disordered eating and has since blossomed into a platform for her to empower others to listen to their bodies and make healthy choices. Noting honesty as her brand, Ogden’s posts range from food to family to meditation.

When discussing wellness, it’s essential to bring in the professionals, so look no further than this Northern California registered dietitian. Through her platform, Jessica Wilson spotlights the intersection of food, the body and race, and posts a bit about being in nature. She is also the co-host of My Black Body podcast, which works to redefine body liberation while healing damage caused by white-centric therapeutic modalities.
The good thing about social media is that you can live anywhere and still have access to, say, a Pennsylvania-based therapist who specializes in working with young women. Founder and clinical director of Therapy for Women, Amanda E. White brings the professional insight of a therapist to Instagram with question prompts, words of wisdom and popular TikTok trends. Last month, she put Simone Biles’ Olympic exit into perspective: “IDK who needs to hear this but… if Simone Biles can pull out of the Olympics to take care of herself, you can take your vacation day!”
As a holistic coach and author, Koya Webb’s feed is distinguished by her time as a yoga teacher, public speaker and vegan activist who equally promotes daily self care and eco-friendly living. Her Instagram is filled with mental health tips, lifestyle posts and affirmations. Based in Marina Del Rey, Webb’s journey in holistic studies kicked off when she was introduced to yoga after a track injury while training for the Olympics. Since then, she has founded Get Loved Up, an international community and yoga school.
