Chef Michael Beckman has finally made the return to his hometown of Los Angeles with his French-inspired restaurant, Workshop Kitchen & Bar.
Doors to this highly-anticipated spot opened on Aug. 12 at La Brea Ave. in the heart of the Fairfax District.
Workshop Kitchen & Bar brings the essence of Beckman’s beloved Palm Springs restaurant, Truss & Twine, to Los Angeles, allowing guests to try his unique dining experience in their own city.
Beckman is known for innovation, and this new spot is no exception. By creating a heightened dining experience surrounded by 1920s architecture, restaurant-goers can give his adventurous food and cocktail menu a try.
What's more, Beckman’s unique culinary style pays homage to his early career and when he studied abroad at the Paul Bocuse Institute in Lyon, France. After years of working alongside some of the most renowned chefs around the world, Beckman created the iconic Workshop concept with Joe Mourani.

At L.A.’s Workshop, Vincent Samarco, Vinson Ching and Jessi Lorraine joined the world-class team. Parisian restaurateur Samarco joinsed as the sommelier and general manager, while Ching serves as chef de cuisine. Finally, Lorraine came in as the lead bartender.
The dishes feature a range of local and seasonal ingredients, adding a Californian twist to traditional European cooking styles. Produce is sourced from small vendors at the Santa Monica and Hollywood farmer’s markets and Beckman’s garden.
The menu features two versions of a five-course tasting menu with a selection between fish and beef or plant-based dishes. For those looking for an addition to the tasting menu, there is also a rotating menu of a la carte starters and supplemental courses. The best part of your meal will likely be the traveling cheese chart served alongside freshly baked bread, truffles and an expertly paired vintage dessert wine.
The cocktail menu is just as important as the food menu with each drink complementing the flavors of every dish served. The extravagant presentation and brightness of the cocktails help add a fun pop of color into the otherwise sleek and monochromatic restaurant aesthetic. For those who prefer wine, there will also be a wine list featuring 240 eclectic selections curated by the talented Samarco. With an emphasis on biodynamic producers from California and Europe, these bottles effortlessly pair with each meal.
